The autograph, a draft score in version for voice and piano, a set of instrumental parts apparently written by the composer, and one page of a version in F major have been preserved, as well as some sketches.

One of the pages of sketches includes several versions of the text in the composer’s own hand. Sketches of two other songs appear on the same page, but were apparently never developed. Some sketches were found with the work’s melody, as well as one with the texts. There is a later version in F-major of this work. Front to Front was apparently composed in Morelia, during the composer’s visit to a refuge for Spanish Republican children there.
